The OTSRC has been active since December 2005. Our season lasts from September to April and contains friendly games as well as competition in the Londonderry Cup.
We play up to 30 friendly games each season at various central London venues and in the Tonbridge area. These include 'OT Evenings' scattered throughout the season - informal get-togethers to meet new colleagues and play as much unstructured squash as wanted. Games are on weekday evenings, mostly Tuesday-Thursday, with an annual spring match against The School on a Saturday afternoon. Friendly matches are mostly for 5 strings (players) each side and standards are matched beforehand, as far as possible, by discussion with our opponent's match captain. Several matches contain a doubles pair as well (age is no barrier). And, as you would expect of Old Tonbridgians, we are to be found post-match in the local bar/eatery with our opponents, ensuring continued friendship despite the on-court battles.
We also maintain a squad of 10-12 players for the Londonderry Cup each season, from whom the top available 5 are selected for matches.
Where court and related fees are charged (about half of all games) each player pays his share (usually between £5 and £8 for an evening). We are greatly helped by a grant from the Tonbridge Society that defrays the costs of match balls, the Londonderry Cup rounds and other costs.
We are always keen to welcome new players of all standards at any time in the season. Do please get in touch, even if you only want more information for the time being - and maybe to be added to the OTSRC e-mail Contact List to receive fixture list updates and occasional news and reports.
