The Speakers:
Nick Cousins (SH 88-93) - Marketing Director, Premiership Rugby
Nick left Tonbridge in 1993 and went on to study Law at Southampton University. From university he continued to follow the legal path by completing the LPC in London. However, his passion for creativity took the better of him and led him to apply for roles in advertising agencies. Following a few years building his ad agency experience he accepted a role in marketing at The Walt Disney Company in London and stayed there for 15 years working his way up into senior marketing roles. This was mainly in the film studio, which is an ever-present love of his, but latterly he oversaw advertising across the entire Disney business from movies to toys to parks and ultimately Disney+.
Last year Nick decided to make the move into Sport (another passion) and is now applying much of his entertainment experience and expertise to help grow Premiership Rugby and its position in the global sport and entertainment industries.
Michael Lloyd - Sustainability and Logistics Manager, Arsenal FC
Michael Lloyd is the Sustainability and Logistics Manager at Arsenal FC where no two days are the same! This is a new role created to drive the sustainability ambitions of the club. His work includes overseeing projects, events and sustainability initiatives as well as day to day operations of energy management, maintenance and cleaning for the site. His role encompasses all the elements of facilities operations within a large public and sporting venue. On a match day the turnstiles open to 60,000 fans and his responsibilities cover crowd control to ensure safety and enjoyment for all. Michael will share his experiences of working for a world-renowned football club, and the pleasure he has in working in such a vibrant sector.
Ed Marsh (JH 07-12) - Account Manager, Prism Sport + Entertainment
After leaving Tonbridge in 2012, Ed began his university studies at Durham University in 2013, reading Spanish and English Literature. This included a year abroad in Ecuador, where he was an English Teacher at a university, on behalf of the British Council. Ed graduated in 2017 and without much of an idea about his next steps undertook to build some experience through internships. As a result of time spent at an advertising agency and then in Manchester United’s sponsorship research division, he found a route to his current agency and is part of a team managing a team partnership in Formula 1. Ed’s experiences have ranged from planning his client’s activation programme at the 2019 Japanese Grand Prix to providing strategic counsel to his client around how to better target Formula 1 fans as part of their global brand-building objectives. At present, Ed is also supporting Aston Martin launch two road cars.
Nick Winder (MH 10-15) - Client Manager, Alpha Sports
After a sport-filled five years at Tonbridge, including captaining the Cricket 1st XI for two years, Nick went on to study Classics at Cambridge. He graduated in 2019 with a 2.1 in his degree, and full blues in both Cricket and Golf. Nick began working for a new business consultancy, before moving on after 18 months to pursue his passion for sport. He joined Alpha Sports Management, a sports agency that represents and manages professional golfers from young and upcoming talent to major winners (including Ernie Els). Nick will talk about his route into the world of sport, what the day-to-day role of a golf agent/manager actually entails, and what to consider before trying to become the next Jerry Maguire.
