Tonbridge Society Business Breakfast: Jeff Dodds on Formula E

The Tonbridge Society was delighted to welcome Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E and a current parent (PH), to the Tonbridge Business Breakfast on Tuesday, 15 October.

Jeff delivered a captivating talk on ‘How Formula E is Changing the Planet’, addressing why electric motor-racing has become crucial to the global e-mobility transition and how Formula E aims to make a significant impact in the world of quiet motorsport.

During his talk, Jeff highlighted Formula E’s impressive fanbase of 385 million, noting its rapid growth, particularly in regions like Japan, China, and Indonesia, while recognising Formula 1's established base of 800 million fans. As CEO, his strategic objectives for Formula E are:

  • Creating noise: Generating greater interest and buzz through increased social and digital presence.
  • Pursuing speed: Not only focusing on having the fastest accelerating cars in motorsport but also being the fastest-growing motorsport in terms of fan and audience expansion.
  • Championing sustainability: Proudly being the first net-zero sport from inception and maintaining their position as the world’s number one sport for ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance). Formula E is committed to continually improving its sustainability efforts.
  • Be at the cutting edge of technology

In addition to environmental efforts, Jeff discussed Formula E’s dedication to creating meaningful social impact, using its global platform to address social inequalities and foster community engagement in the cities where its races are held.

Joining Jeff was British racing driver Daniel Ticktum, currently competing with the ERT Formula E Team in the Formula E World Championship. Daniel shared insights into his career, transitioning from Formula 2 to Formula E, before both speakers engaged in a lively Q&A session with the audience.

We extend our sincere thanks to all who attended the event and to parent Michael Helou of Sidara for kindly hosting us at their Holborn office.

The next Tonbridge Business Breakfast will take place on Thursday, 7 November, featuring Jake Brewer (WW) discussing ‘Geopolitics: Assessing the Impacts of the US Election’ in London.
