We held our AGM at the school in January, followed by a .22 match against the school. Once again thanks are due to Tim Blackwell and to the school for allowing us the use of the excellent Kemp Room as well as providing us with lunch.
We had four fullbore shoots at Bisley in 2024, including a match against Kent and Kent schools in May, organised by Kent.
July saw the OTs competing in the annual schools' veterans match on Ashburton Day where we fielded two teams. We were joined by recent OT Ewan Gadd-Chapman. Four OTs – Tom Hendriks, Ewan Gadd-Chapman, Theo Dodds and Henry Dodds - then went on to shoot in the annual Imperial Competition.
In October we held our annual long-range shoot, at 900 yards. The shoot was well attended with eleven members shooting.
The long-range shoot was followed by our annual dinner in the North London Rifle Clubhouse at Bisley. The change of club steward in the summer meant that we were working with a new steward who correctly guessed the needs of a bunch of ex-public school boys and served us with a robust and well cooked meal. Sunday morning saw the survivors shooting gallery rifle on Melville A.
From a shooting perspective it was a good year, with fullbore shoots at short and long range, plus a good smallbore shoot against the School.
It was also a good year for club member Theo Dodds (WW 2008-13) who shot for GB in South Africa, helping the team to win the prestigious Protea Match as well as becoming individual World Champion at 700m and setting a one-day record in the most important international fullbore competition of them all, the Palma Match. Theo took the record with a score of 225 and 40 'V' bulls (out of a maximum possible of 225 and 45 Vs), smashing the previous record by ten 'V' bulls.
Later in the year Theo went on to win the Armed Forces Interservices Smallbore competition and was named the UK Armed Forces Sportsman of the Year, 2024.
We have added a second shooting jacket, scope and scope stand to the Club's equipment. The Club's kit now includes:
- Two 10.9 adjustable shooting jackets
- Professional level adjustable slings for the above
- New spotting scope and stand
- 2 x fullbore rifles with RPA sights
- 1 x smallbore rifle (Walther KK300)
We have seen a steady increase in costs in recent years. An electronic target now costs £122 for a half day meaning that the actual range hire cost per person is between £20 and £30. Ammunition has gone from 90p per round five years ago to £1.35 in 2025.
As per previous years all shooting attendance was recorded in the Club Shooting Ledger.
