In July 2019, Calum Muress (WH 03-08) completed the notorious ‘Arch 2 Arc Enduroman’ triathlon. Calum took on the challenge to raise money for two charities close to his family's heart – Breast Cancer Now and the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. He smashed his overall target of £2,000, securing £7,645. Starting at Marble Arch in central London, Calum completed a solo run 89 miles down to Dover, which took an overall 30 hours of continuous running. After a short sleep, he next fought strong tides and vast quantities of jellyfish to swim the Channel in 16 hours – a feat that is so rare, more people have summited Everest. The final stint of the challenge required Calum to cycle the remaining 181 miles from Calais to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. This closing leg took Calum 24 hours of non-stop cycling. As of the end of the 2018 season, only 35 individuals had successfully completed the triathlon event, in the nearly 20 years it has been running. In completing the event, Calum becomes the 38th person in the world to have achieved this extreme test of endurance. |
