News of OTs |
Dear Old Tonbridgians, I hope that this finds you and your families safe and well. It has been good to hear from Old Tonbridgians across the world as well as from further afield in the UK and locally here in Tonbridge. During this time of crisis, we draw strength and encouragement from our incredible Tonbridge community. Only a week after the early closure of the school shortly before the end of the Lent Term, I am proud that we can already share news about how we are supporting the wider community and adapting to fast-changing circumstances. For example, a new appointment-only NHS Assessment Centre for patients showing Covid-19 symptoms has been set up at the Tonbridge School Centre: this was a tremendous team effort as we assure the NHS of our total support in these difficult times. As is happening elsewhere, the rapid escalation of the pandemic has also prompted us to make some hard decisions. You may be interested to hear that the school has decided to reduce summer term fees for current families at a time when it will be difficult to reduce our costs proportionally, and when the school’s commercial revenue has also reduced considerably. However, we remain fully committed to sustaining the life of Tonbridge throughout this period and to ensure that we emerge strongly from it. OT News contains several stories about the efforts of many in our community who are offering help and support to one another. We also have stories submitted by OTs before this global pandemic took hold, and these are included to provide a welcome distraction and to illustrate the fascinating and varied paths that our Old Tonbridgians lead. Please reach out to us via Tonbridge Connect if we can help you, if you can offer help to others, or if you have a story to share. We will do our utmost to facilitate connections and celebrate positive news, to help us all through the challenges ahead. Yours, James Priory |
