OT Events & Reunions |
On Sunday 10 November, an OT team and staff team gathered for the sixth Annual Charity Football Match in memory of Suanu Saro-Wiwa (PS 13-18).
Against the odds, the weather held out. Despite a valiant effort from the staff team, including a heroic save from Dr Thompson, the Old Tonbridgians were victorious for the first time. The match was a touching celebration of the Tonbridge community, both past and present. Everyone left with a few sore muscles, but with a renewed sense of camaraderie and pride at raising £1,512 for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).
Players and supporters enjoyed sandwiches, cakes and hot drinks by the pitch, and the game was supported by Olivia Saro-Wiwa, Felix Saro-Wiwa (PS 10-15), Anna Hughes (Tron), Mrs Thompson and many others.
Ben Yonge (PS 13-18) has organised this match every year since Suanu's tragic and untimely passing in 2018. In 2023, Ben, Alfie Shankland (FH 13-18), Hugo Flower (Sc 13-18) and Meruig Shotton (CH 13-18) embarked on an adventure called '20,000 Leagues across Eurasia' raising an incredible £11,000 for CRY, taking the total so far to almost £15,000.
To further support the work of this important charity, the School is pleased to be actively incorporating CRY cardiac testing into the medical screening process for students.
The match will take place again in November 2025 and all are welcome to take part.
