The new Barton Science Centre is helping to transform science education at the school, Phil Deakin explains. Generous donations totalling £3 million from the Tonbridge community helped finance the state-of-the-art facility, which was officially opened almost two years’ ago. Head of Science Phil Deakin, explains how the facility inspires teachers and boys to go beyond the curriculum and explore subjects in more detail: “Our new project labs are in frequent use for extension work and we regularly host advanced lectures in the magnificent atrium. All this extra activity prepares students not only for exams, but also for life at university and beyond.” The centre was shortlisted for a regional award from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) earlier this year.
