Last Saturday's Chapel Talk introduced boys to the cultural significance of Chinese New Year through engaging presentations by the Overseas Committee. Pranav (HS5), Chairman of the Committee, opened with an overview of its importance in the Lunar Calendar, highlighting themes of family, gratitude and good fortune. He noted that the Year of the Snake symbolises fresh starts and letting go of the past.
Vice Chairman Alida (JH4), explained the role of fireworks in the celebrations, while Hiroki (HS4) detailed the Chinese Zodiac’s origins, including the legendary race that led to their order being established in the zodiac calendar. To illustrate the story, Committee members staged a lively re-enactment, with boys enthusiastically racing through the pews.
The service ended on a festive note with traditional Chinese New Year music and songs, elegantly translated from English to Chinese.
