Ben Earl School Boy Highlights Video Ed Surguy (WW5) reflects on his own school rugby experience and watching role model Ben Earl as he grew up. My earliest memory of rugby on the Fifty was watching Ben Earl throw aside members of the Eastbourne College pack as I watched on in my red and white shirt as a lanky 14-year-old. Fast forward four years and there I was staring at names such as May, Earl and Spawforth on the boards wondering how our season would pan out. The influence of players such as these, even for someone like myself with no professional aspiration, was huge. Moreover, the history of the school makes representing it at the highest sporting level something special in itself. The last few months have given me time to reflect upon school rugby in a way which wasn’t previously possible. This culminated in my decision to make the highlights reel. I have compiled footage that was originally taken by boys Alex Haynes & Edward Hill. My hope is that for future pupils coming to Tonbridge School, this video will convey the ferocity, skill and passion that comes with representing the 1st XV. Hopefully we won’t still be losing to Wellington in 10 years time but even if we are, I hope that the boys can look back on their time with the same pride that I currently do. Original videographers: Filmed by Alex Haynes (PS 13-18) & Edward Hill (WW 11-16).
