Ben was labelled as a ‘standout’ after England beat Argentina (27-10) in the group stage of the World Cup on Saturday. The Independent said “A backs-against-the-wall performance was perhaps best exemplified by flanker Ben Earl. The back rower produced an all-action 80 minutes, England’s energiser bunny leading the defensive effort right from the very start.” In the recent match against Japan where England edged closer to the quarter-finals with a 34-12 win, the Evening Standard called Ben "England’s clear man of the match" and said "this was just the latest furious, frenzied but controlled display of physical dominance". Sky Sports said "As England grew into the game, Earl was at the forefront, and at his first Rugby World Cup he has been a shining light. Strong in the pack but also dazzling in attack, he is a key performer if England are going to progress far in this tournament". Similar priase came from the BBC "Earl put in a superb shift, making the most tackles and the joint-most metres of any England player", and The Guardian "Ben Earl was probably England's best performer against Japan". Many congratulations to Ben and the rest of the England Rugby squad and all the best against Chile on 23 September. |
