OT Ollie Sykes (HS 18-23) has been named Wisden Schools Cricketer of the Year at an awards ceremony that took place on Tuesday 16 April. The prestigious award has been handed out since 2008, and Oliie is the first ever recipient from Tonbridge, joining the likes of previous winners Jonny Bairstow (2008) and Jos Buttler (2010), both of whom have gone on to play for England. The award was given at Wisden's annual awards dinner on 16 April at Lord's cricket ground, and was chosen by the writers for the Wisden Cricketer's Almanack, often referred to as the 'Bible of Cricket', published since 1864 and featuring school cricket since 1865. Ollie's impressive win comes from a fantastic season of cricket, where he scored 935 runs and took 30 wickets in the 2023 season for Tonbridge, as well as making three centuries. Many congratulations to Ollie on this fantastic achievement from all at Tonbridge School.
