What do you hope to do in the future? After university, I am working in management consulting. Additionally, I have a strong interest in startups, and it is my ambition to leverage my technical skills in the future to become an entrepreneur.

What did you like most about Tonbridge School? One of the most cherished aspects of Tonbridge for me was its unique boarding house community. It provided an enriching experience that not only fostered lifelong friendships but also made Tonbridge feel like a home away from home. The relationships formed with fellow students, as well as with matrons and tutors, added depth to my experience, enriching my time there. From exhilarating house sports competitions to the simply eating together as a house, the boarding house became the source of many of my fondest memories.

What is your favourite memory from Tonbridge? One of my fondest memories is winning the house music competition. The weeks of practicing together were incredibly enjoyable, and performing in front of everyone with such energy was exhilarating. The best part was celebrating the victory with the entire house afterward.

What do you hope to do in the future? Next year I am undertaking a Foundation course in fine art at The King’s Foundation, and I plan to continue studying fine art afterwards. My long-term ambitions are to make a living making art and writing.

What did you like most about Tonbridge School? Even though the extra-curriculars were superlative and the facilities are second to none, I would have to say the English Department. I was lucky to be taught by Mr Edwards, Mr Carpenter, and Mr Evans during my time at Tonbridge. They inspired me to read English at university and taught me so much I’m still thinking about.

What is your favourite memory from Tonbridge? Winning House Music with Oakeshott (2019). My brother and I arranged the electric piece and it was a whole-house collaboration. We worked hard practising the piece and it paid off. It’s one of my favourite memories.

Why did you want to be part of the Campaign? What made you get involved? The more time that passes since I left Tonbridge the more I appreciate what an extraordinary place it is. I want to be part of the Campaign to give back to the school and help to provide others with the opportunities I was fortunate enough to receive. As an academic and art scholar at the school I think it is so important to support the bursaries scheme so that anyone bright and capable enough is able to attend.

Patrick

OH 18-23

I am currently studying Philosophy at the University of Nottingham

What do you hope to do in the future? Right now I am not too certain, hopefully either a carer in London surrounding finance or I hope to go abroad and find something completely new, potentially surrounding environmental work.

What did you like most about Tonbridge School? The friendships made along the way, spending six days a week with my friends has formed relationships that I believe will last for the foreseeable future. Not only this but I think relationships formed with teachers was also unique to Tonbridge, the support available and the care put into teaching was exceptional and I will always be grateful for the support I received.

What is your favourite memory from Tonbridge? My favourite memory was doing house drama, it came from a joke conversation about doing it considering I had never done something surrounding drama. I ended up accepting the role of Miss Grissworld, a role that required me to put on a croaky middle aged woman’s voice for forty minutes. It gave me a new type of confidence and gave me loads of great memories not just from performing but also from rehearsals and watching my friends enjoy it as well.

Why did you want to be part of the Campaign? I believe that one of my strengths is talking to people, I enjoy conversation with anyone, I saw it as an opportunity to test myself on this front and believe it will give me even more confidence surrounding this. I also think it will look good on a cv, the task of asking people to give money is something that most would find tricky, so I believe practice in this topic of conversation will mean that I will be well equipped for any type of conversation in the future.
